FIFA disciplinary chiefs will deal Wayne Rooney's violent conduct charge before the end of the World Cup, it has been confirmed.

A submission has been received from the Football Association and Rooney's case, together with that of Argentina players Leandro Cufre and Maxi Rodriguez, will be dealt with before Sunday's final.

FIFA spokesman Andreas Herren said: "Statements have been received from all three of them and their associations on the incidents. The disciplinary committee is to take a decision before the end of the World Cup."

Rooney was red-carded for stamping on Ricardo Carvalho's groin but the Manchester United striker is claiming it was unintentional and has been backed up by the Football Association.

FIFA however have given their ultimate backing to Argentinian referee Horacio Elizondo, the match official who sent off Rooney, by choosing him to take charge of the World Cup final on Sunday.
