Aaron Lennon hopes John Terry or Steven Gerrard is selected as the next England captain.
The Tottenham winger, now back home following England's World Cup elimination, believes Chelsea lionheart Terry and Liverpool maestro Gerrard are best equipped to lead the Three Lions in a new era under Steve McClaren.
Lennon told us: "They would both make great captains. It would be an absolute honour to play under either of them. I'm glad it's not my choice as it'd be difficult to choose."
The former Leeds star was a surprise choice in Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup 23, but made quite an impact coming off the bench in the clashes with Trinidad & Tobago, Ecuador and Portugal.
But with David Beckham suffering a torn Achilles tendon in Saturday's defeat to Portugal, Lennon would have been favourite to replace the out-going skipper in the side had England progressed on spot-kicks.
"I can't think about that," Lennon added. "He's a tremendous player and just playing alongside him has been a great experience for me. He's been a great captain for England and he'll be missed in the role.
"Just being in Germany was a great experience for me. I never expected to go (to the World Cup finals) at the start of last season and just being there was a great experience for me.
"But I'm gutted we're out because there was nothing to choose between us and Portugal. We could have been playing in a World Cup semi-final or possibly more."
