England fitness coach Ivan Carminati has branded Jamie Carragher a "joke" after his penalty miss.

Carragher scored with his first attempt, but had to retake the penalty as the referee had not blown his whistle. His second spot-kick was saved.

The Liverpool man has admitted he did not know he had to wait for the whistle, but Carminati told The Sun: "What a joke. The stress made him do what he did.

"Normally, Carragher is a good penalty taker, but anything can happen when the pressure gets to you.

"You can practise penalties and we did that. But you cannot prepare for the stress."

Assistant coach Tord Grip said Carragher "should have known better".
