Spain striker Fernando Torres expects to win his showdown with Zinedine Zidane when his side take on France in the second round of the World Cup.

Zidane's Real Madrid team have got the better of Torres' Atletico in Madrid derbies of recent years, and the World Cup will be the last time he will face the great French midfielder, who retires after the tournament.

"Zidane will try to go as far as possible in this World Cup seeing as this will be his last tournament," said Torres.

"However, we will do everything to make sure that this is not the case, let's hope this will be his last game."

The Atletico Madrid forward, Spain's top scorer with three goals so far in the competition, is looking to guide his country to the quarter-final stages.

Having won all their games so far, netting eight goals and only giving away one in the group stages, Torres is upbeat about his team's chances.

"France finished second of the group and there must be a reason for it," said Torres.

"We know they are a great team and we respect them because they have been world champions but we don't fear them."

France have struggled so far in Germany, with just one win against Togo in the group stages.

Les Bleus coach Raymond Domenech has come under fire for failing to inspire his players - many of whom are veterans of the 1998 World Cup-winning side.

But Spain full-back Mariano Pernia knows it would be a huge mistake to underestimate France.

"With France we have to be careful because they have players of great quality," Pernia said.

"They haven't played well up to now but that could change."
