Joaquin could be the surprise element when Spain take on France in their World Cup second-round showdown in Hanover.
The Real Betis winger was originally considered as a standby for Liverpool's Luis Garcia in the link role between midfield and attack.
But with coach Luis Aragones edging towards a 4-4-2 formation, Joaquin could be handed a start on the right.
Joaquin missed out in Spain's convincing opener against Ukraine but proved his worth when he replaced Garcia early in the second half of their subsequent 3-1 win over Tunisia.
With Aragones resting his starting XI, Joaquin played 90 minutes in the clash against Saudi Arabia, with their 1-0 victory securing his side the top spot in Group H.
Spain are one of just four teams to have won all three of their World Cup games so far but Aragones' biggest fear is his side may revert to under-achieving type at the crucial stage of the tournament.
Spain have never progressed past the quarter-final round.
"France is a great team," Aragones said. "My biggest concern is my team doesn't maintain its standard.
"We could face a big rival but if we show our worth and we take advantage of our strengths there is no reason why we shouldn't come out triumphant."
Les Bleus have struggled from the off and only just made it through thanks to their 2-0 triumph against Togo in their last group game.
"I am convinced we will beat them," said Aragones. "But we are not going into the game as favourites, we have to prove that on the pitch."
Aragones will have all his players available for the game against their neighbours.
