Stephen Appiah insists Ghana are ready to lay their bodies on the line when they face Brazil with a place in the World Cup quarter-finals at stake.

The Fenerbahce midfielder is expected to be a key figure in the absence of Michael Essien through suspension.

It is the biggest game in Ghana's history and Appiah says the players will not be found wanting.

He said: "The guys are ready to die for the nation.

"All Africans are looking for us to do extraordinary things, to go far. That's why we're here, to make our country and Africa proud.

"We're a good team and people are beginning to notice that.

"Maybe before, 20,000 people knew us. Now there are lots of flags of Ghana.

"We don't feel extra pressure. We're cool and we're ready.

"The most important thing is we are ready to play each and every team we might face."

Ghana are riding on a wave of confidence after successive victories against the Czech Republic and the USA.

Coach Ratomor Dujkovic said: "For every team Brazil is the greatest challenge for they are the defending champions.

"But we have to focus on our own strengths and not worry about them.

"Of course it will be difficult. If you stop Ronaldinho that's great but then there are others who can hurt you like Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and Cafu.

"We just have to treat this game like any other.

"Brazil have more quality of course and more experience but anything can happen in football.

"We have seen that over the years. Shocks can and do occur.

"Perhaps it is better to face Brazil now rather than in the final as they are not yet into their stride."

Striker Razak Pimpong suffered a rib injury against the USA but should be available for the second phase match.
