Switzerland youngster Johan Djourou feels sorry for Arsenal team-mate Philippe Senderos but is intent on grabbing his World Cup opportunity with both hands - if selected.
Senderos dislocated a shoulder in the 2-0 win over South Korea that saw the Alpine nation qualify for the last 16 and 19-year-old Djourou is the leading candidate to replace his club-mate, whom he came on as a substitute for against the Koreans.
"Hopefully I will play but the coach will decide," said Djourou.
"If I do I will be very happy - if not - well..."
The teenager admitted he felt for Senderos, saying: "He's very disappointed and I can understand why - I would be disappointed in his position.
"But I have dreamed of playing in the World Cup since I was a 10-year-old boy - I think that's what most 10-year-old boys dream of.
"It's just amazing to play in this World Cup and it's an experience I will never forget.
"The team has been fantastic so far and now we hope to do it all again against the Ukraine."
Switzerland's defence is yet to be breached at the World Cup but the absence of Senderos, whose dislocated shoulder will keep him out for five or six weeks, is a big blow.
