Jose Antonio Reyes added to his terrific season by making his World Cup debut in Spain's 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia.
With victories in their first two games against Ukraine and Tunisia, Spain coach Luis Aragones made wholesale changes and Arsenal winger Reyes was given a starting place.
And the 22-year-old Gunner made the most of his opportunity by setting up his team's only goal with a free-kick in the first half which Juanito headed in.
"I am extremely happy to have made the assist for my team's goal on my World Cup debut," Reyes said.
"Personally, I felt good, I wasn't nervous at all despite making my debut in a top tournament.
"Having played big games for Arsenal this season, it has really helped me mature as a player and be ready for this type of competition.
"It's a fantastic feeling to play in a World Cup as a footballer and I hope I am given more minutes in the future and am able to score."
The triumph over Saudi Arabia completed a perfect group stage for the Spaniards, who are determined to progress further in the tournament.
They have never advanced beyond the quarter-finals but believe they are a team that can go all the way.
Reyes faces a very difficult opponent in the next game against France, however. He will come up against his Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry in the last 16 showdown.
"It's down to us to prove what we can do," Reyes said. "We have a winning mentality and we have proved it so far in the group stages.
"We don't fear any rivals."
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia defender Al Montashari believes the tournament was a good learning experience for his side.
The Saudis took just one point in the tournament - a 2-2 draw in their opener against Ghana - before successive defeats against the Ukraine and Spain.
"This tournament has been a learning experience for us," he said. "We are a young side and we hope to improve in the next few years and be back in the competition in 2010."
