ADVOCAAT: KOREA WILL PLAY TO WIN

South Korea coach Dick Advocaat has told his players they must beat Switzerland tomorrow - because the alternative is too complicated to contemplate.

A win in Hanover would guarantee a place in the knock-out stage as it would keep France, who play Togo, below them.

A draw would do the same as long as the French slip up or only win 1-0.

But a goalless draw with the Swiss at the same time as a France win by a 2-1 scoreline would create a most unusual scenario - and one that Advocaat was keen to avoid.

It would leave Switzerland as group winners and France and South Korea, who had drawn 1-1 in Leipzig, unable to be separated, each with five points, each with identical goal difference and goals scored tallies.

Should this come to pass then the solution is a trip to Berlin for a tie-breaker to decide Group G's second place - the drawing of lots.

Advocaat said: "We have to win and we will go out to win, as we always do, and at the end we will see if we were able to beat them or not.

"We have to go out to win because if we go out thinking about a draw or the drawing of lots or anything like that then we will just make it difficult for ourselves. And we will win."

South Korea Football Association president Chung Moon Joon, who is also a FIFA vice-president, insisted no-one in the camp was contemplating having to rely on a lottery to stay in the competition.

He said: "We prefer not to think of that kind of complication. All we are thinking of at the moment is a Korean victory. Our players will do their best and it should be a good match tomorrow."

The Koreans, who had to come from behind to beat Togo 2-1 in their first game, have the advantage of more experience than their younger Swiss counterparts.

South Korea reached the semi-finals in 2002 while the Swiss had not played in the World Cup finals since 1994 until their 0-0 opener with France.

Advocaat said: "We tried hard against France but a draw was the most we could get. The Swiss are a well-organised team so that makes it difficult. They have some good players and have had some good results in the past.

"But we have had some as well. In the last 20 games we have only lost four times so in that way we can compete with them."

A 2-0 win for France and a 1-1 draw between the Swiss and the Koreans would also cause problems as although Switzerland and France would both qualify, lots would have to be drawn to see who actually wins the group.
