Highly-rated Holland striker Dirk Kuyt is set to spark a Premiership scramble by quitting Feyenoord after the World Cup.
The 25-year-old has been ousted from Marco van Basten's first-choice line-up by Robin van Persie, although the forward did start Wednesday night's draw with Argentina.
Kuyt expects to be back on the bench when Holland tackle Portugal in Nuremberg on Sunday for a place in the quarter-finals and he knows it could take injury or suspension to force his way back into Van Basten's plans later in the competition.
The player insists he remains fully focussed on helping his country to win their first World Cup. But once their challenge for glory finally reaches its conclusion, he will meet with his advisors to plot a new career path.
After scoring an impressive 71 goals in three seasons with Feyenoord, Kuyt believes he has come to the end of his time in Rotterdam.
And the success of so many of his fellow countrymen in the Premiership has triggered a desire to follow suit.
"At the end of the tournament, I will speak with my agent to find out what the possibilities are," he said.
"Maybe I will go to England. There are a certainly a few clubs I like, who all play at the top of the league, so we will see what happens."
As he shares an agent with Dennis Bergkamp, Kuyt may turn to the Arsenal legend for advice, which is bound to lead to speculation that he might join Van Persie at the Gunners' plush new home at Ashburton Grove.
There is also a possibility of appearing against potential foes for a Holland win over Portugal would probably set up a quarter-final meeting with England, who Kuyt thinks will dispose of Ecuador easily enough in Stuttgart on Saturday.
"A quarter-final against England would be a great prospect," said Kuyt.
"But we cannot afford to look too far ahead because although we expect them to beat Ecuador, we are facing very tough opponents in Portugal and we must be fully focussed on that match."
Holland will need no extra motivation against the Portuguese as it was Luiz Felipe Scolari's team which dumped the Dutch out of Euro 2004 semi-finals.
"After what happened two years ago, it is time we beat Portugal," he said.
"We have the players who can make a difference, especially up front with Van Persie, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Arjen Robben.
"We can do it but we must play as a team."
