Costa Rica coach Alexandre Guimaraes is pleading for patience from the nation's supporters after their World Cup exit.
Three straight defeats by Ecuador, Germany and finally Poland saw the team finish bottom of Group A.
Guimaraes' own position is now in doubt but he said: "We will put our hopes in a new side.
"These players will need time to work and gather experience before they start performing at 100%.
"We are all aware the fans are not happy and we understand this.
"But there is nothing more that we can do other than sit down and analyse what happened, look at the errors and work out the future in the coming days."
Guimaraes believes his squad gave their all with little reward.
He said: "I want to be clear that we did not come just for the ride.
"The side worked hard throughout in spite of the fact that the results did not go our way.
"This brings to an end the work of a generation of players."
Guimaraes is due to meet president Hermes Navarro soon and added: "We will take a couple of days to discuss the future. Then at the end of the week, we will have a decision."
