South Korea coach Dick Advocaat is urging World Cup organisers to refrain from watering the pitch before their match against France in Leipzig on Sunday.
Several French players have complained that the pitch in their opening game, the disappointing 0-0 draw with Switzerland, was too dry.
FIFA are leaving it to individual stadium co-ordinators to decide whether to water the grass but for Advocaat the dryer it is the better.
He said: "It will be better for France if they water the grass or if it has rained. We will need to slow down the game because they have so much skill and pace, so it would better for us if the pitch is dry."
Korea currently lead Group G after their victory over Togo but Advocaat knows the French are fighting for pride as well as qualification for the last 16.
The Dutchman added: "Of course France are the favourites and they will be very up for this game and we have to expect that.
"But if we can put them under pressure and make life difficult for them in the way Switzerland did then perhaps we can spring a bit of a surprise."
Advocaat may restore experienced striker Ahn Jung-Hwan to the starting line-up after he came off the bench to score an excellent winner in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Togo. The 30-year-old was one of the key players in Korea's run to the semi-finals in 2002.
