Ecuador coach Luis Fernando Suarez warned his men not to get carried away by World Cup euphoria after a 2-0 win over Group A rivals Poland put them in with an excellent chance of reaching the knockout stages for the first time.
Goals from Carlos Tenorio and man-of-the-match Agustin Delgado ensured the Latin Americans got off to a flying start unlike their maiden World Cup four years ago when a nervy defeat at the hands of Italy in their opener eventually meant elimination at the first hurdle.
Suarez said: "We are very happy for all those who support us but we will be much happier if we qualify (for the knockout phase).
"It was a very tough game and we had to pay attention to our tactics and beware of Poland.
"Afterwards we became more confident and started to use the ball well. We must approach the games that could see us qualify with tranquillity. It's okay to be happy but only in the knowledge that there are complications ahead of us."
Poland coach Pawel Janas denied his team had been tactically outplayed by their opponents at the Veltins Arena in what was almost a home game with the vast majority of the 52,000 crowd sporting Polish colours.
"Tactics were not an issue," said Janas. "We had watched many videos of them and we knew how they play.
"I don't want to discuss if their will be changes in the team that plays for Germany. I will think about that from tomorrow.
"We finished the game well but there was too much to do."
