Guillermo Franco is certainly no youngster but at international level his career has only just begun.

The versatile striker earned his first Mexico cap in his country's final World Cup qualifying game against Guatemala last October but he impressed by finding the net in the 5-2 victory.

Since then he has been a prominent figure in Ricardo Lavolpe's plans and managed to score the winning goal in the Tricolors' 1-0 friendly triumph over Ghana in March.

Franco started his career with San Lorenzo in Argentina but made his name at Mexican club side Monterrey where he scored 57 times in 113 games before becoming a member of the growing Latin American contingent at El Madrigel.

In January this year, the 29-year-old joined Spanish side Villarreal for 1.8million euros to help them in their quest for Champions League glory and he became an instant hit by scoring crucial goals in the Primera Liga.
