Club: Messina

Marc Zoro will be known to many for his protest against racist chanting during Messina's match against Inter Milan last season.

Zoro was collecting the ball to take a throw in when he reacted to a torrent of abuse and monkey chants, behaviour he claims to suffer on a weekly basis.

In response, he picked up the ball and started walking off in tears and although he was convinced to play on he had made his mark - the following round of games were delayed by five minutes in protest against racism.

Before signing for Messina Zoro played for Salernitana, and made his international debut in 2003 in a 3-0 friendly win over Cameroon.

Zoro featured heavily in the crucial last few matches in World Cup qualifying, but started just once at the African Nations Cup, with Emmanuel Eboue getting the nod at right-back.

It is perhaps a mark of how far the Ivory Coast have come in recent years that someone who plays regularly in Serie A struggles to get into the team.
