Called up a day after the initial 23-man squad was named as tests revealed World Cup veteran Frankie Hejduk had a serious knee injury, Chris Albright is a converted forward who now plays primarily in central defence.

Strong and committed, the LA Galaxy man made his internationl debut as a striker back in 1999 but his caps tally - when the squad was named he had just 19 to his name - shows he has never carved himself out a regular spot.

Called on in five of the USA's World Cup qualifiers, Albright can be used at either full-back on wide in midfield where his experience as a striker makes him more of a threat going forwad than the unfortunate Hejduk.
