Position: Midfielder
Born: 28.08.81
Club: Lille

Daniel Gygax is starting to deliver the potential he has long promised and this summer will be the perfect place for the Lille man to show he has come of age.

The 24-year-old is one of Switzerland's future stars who has already become a prominent part of the first team. He featured in all three games of Euro 2004 and played in all but two of Switzerland's World Cup qualifying games, scoring once in the 3-1 victory over Cyprus.

A versatile performer, Gygax can play on the left or as a second forward as well as his primary role as a right winger. He is blessed with electric pace and an ability to weave around defenders before delivering dangerous crosses.

Gygax's career took off in 1998 when he signed for FC Zurich as a 17-year-old from FC Baden, who he had been with for ten years.

After being farmed out on loan he returned to Zurich in 2002 and became a first-team regular, although last season was his best to date scoring seven goals in 30 league games to help the side finish fifth and win the Swiss Cup.

This domestic form and his international pedigree earned him a three-year-deal at Lille where he has the chance to star in the Champions League. Gygax was part of the squad that finished ahead of Manchester United in the group stages and has managed to chip in with several goals in the French club's domestic challenge including a stunning strike against Sochaux.

Gygax's new-found experience at international level and in one of Europe's major leagues could contribute to a stronger Switzerland, who are aiming to surprise a few nations this summer.
