Jose Arnulfo Montiel is just one of a number of talented youngsters who Paraguay coach Anibal Ruiz has put his faith in during the qualifying campaign and now is hoping for more global exposure this summer.
The 17-year-old is seen as one of the hottest young stars in his homeland, and first made his name at international level when he helped Paraguay win the South American Under-15 Championship in 2004.
The central midfielder made his debut for Paraguay's best-supported side Club Olimpia at the tender age of 15 and after a series of impressive displays there was inevitably interest from richer European clubs.
After a move to Switzerland's Basel fell through, Montiel signed for Udinese in Italy with a view to a joining the Serie A club permanently this summer.
Composed on the ball, Montiel is immensely skilful, has great vision and can strike a fierce shot from range. He was given his first full international caps in Paraguay's final two World Cup qualifying games and made his debut in the 1-0 victory over Venezuela which secured the passport to Germany.
