Nuno Gomes is a tireless worker for the team and an experienced goalscorer.
He started his career at Boavista in Portugal before earning a move to Benfica, where he scored 60 goals in 101 appearances.
His first international goal came four years after his 1996 debut, in the opening match of Euro 2000 as he scored the winner against England.
His performances that summer earned him an £11.5 million move to Fiorentina where he won the Coppa Italia in his first season.
But La Viola's financial problems led to a return to Benfica in 2003, and he has won the Portuguese Cup, and the Superliga since returning to the Estadio da Luz.
With Portugal tending to play with a lone striker, Gomes has fallen behind Pauleta in the pecking order but remains reliable back-up.
