The man who finally booked Angola a place in Germany, Akwa was described as one of the 25 stars of the worldwide qualifying campaign by World Soccer magazine despite scoring just three goals.

As captain of the 'Palancas Negras', the former Benfica man had a big burden and while he didn't deliver goals aplenty the three he did score - against Chad, Nigeria and Rwanda - marked out his importance to the cause.

Angola's all-time top scorer averaging almost a more-than-respectable one goal every two international games, the powerful frontman had trials with Dundee and Celta Vigo in 2001 but now plays his club football in Qatar.
