Energetic right-back Jan Kromkamp will be looking to make a name for himself in his first major championships.

He began his career at Go Ahead Deventer before making the switch to AZ Alkmaar in 2000.

AZ made phenomenal progress in his five years at the club and he was part of the side that reached the semi-finals of the UEFA cup in 2004/05.

This run and Krompkamp's emergence in the national team, attracted the interest of Villarreal and he signed for the 2005/06 season.

He struggled with the language barrier in Spain and Liverpool decided to take him in January on a swap deal with Mauricio Pellegrino going the other way.

Kromkamp will be hoping that his move to Liverpool will cement him a starting berth at the World Cup, and his Champions League experience with Villarreal should serve the energetic right-back well in Germany.
