Auxerre have signed Poland international striker Ireneusz Jelen for the next four seasons.

The 25-year-old hitman, who was part of the Polish squad which was knocked out at the group stage of the World Cup, joins the French side from Wisla Plock, where he scored 40 goals in a three-year spell.

"Auxerre is the most known club in Poland," said Jelen on www.aja.com.

"I hope I will progress a lot while reaching a new step in my career. My ambition is to make myself better known at an international level.

Jelen is the second Polish player to join the Ligue 1 outfit after Under-21 international Kamil Oziemczuk.

Jelen will join his new team-mates next week in Switzerland for pre-season training.

Auxerre, who are now coached by former Marseille boss Jean Fernandez, finished sixth last season.
