Ecuador striker Agustin Delgado has announced his retirement from international football.
The 31-year-old contributed two goals as his country advanced from Group A of the World Cup before losing 1-0 to England in the second round.
"Personally, I'm not thinking about bouncing back in 2010 because against England I played my last match for the national team," Delgado told Chilean newspaper El Mercurio before flying back to Quito.
"I feel I've achieved my goals. I know people in my country don't think so and they have asked me to go on, but my decision is taken - I'll quit the national team.
"Ecuador have good players for the future. It all depends on my country continuing to do things in this way, with seriousness."
Delgado admitted that he felt his country could have gone even further in the tournament, and rued missed opportunities against England.
"I think we had the players and the ability to progress further, but it's like this and we have to come back home," he said.
"We would have needed more luck and a bit more audacity. In the first half, we could have gone in front with that chance (Carlos) Tenorio missed.
"It's true that in the second half they improved, but Ecuador should have had less fear of taking risks."
Next Monday, coach Luis Fernando Suarez, his assistants and the World Cup squad will be welcomed by president Alfredo Palacio.
Upon their arrival in Quito, the team were welcomed back by a host of supporters, who celebrated their historic campaign.
