Ecuador international Edison Mendez is being targeted by German Bundesliga side Hannover, according to the midfielder's agent Jonny Baez.

Hannover coach Peter Neururer is believed to be tracking the 27-year-old, who is currently on national team duty in the World Cup.

"Hannover are constantly calling me to ask about Edison Mendez," claimed Baez.

The Reds have admitted they had been watching the Ecuador national team, but refused to admit it was Mendez they were interested in.

"We couldn't afford him anyway," said Hannover general manager Ilja Kaenzig.

Mendez currently plays for Ecuadorian side LDU Quito.
