Artur Boruc may be about to exit the World Cup with Poland but his ambition and desire to succeed has not diminished.
The Celtic goalkeeper, 26, is determined to emulate one of game's great goalkeepers.
Boruc admits that the player he most admires is former Manchester United icon Peter Schmeichel.
During his time at Old Trafford, the Dane's prowess between the posts and ability to galvanise his defence, set him apart from the rest.
Boruc watched and learned from Schmeichel's displays on TV when he was growing up.
The Parkhead star said: "He was my hero as a boy and still is.
"Schmeichel was a very good goalkeeper. He had something about him and it was hard to find fault in anything he did.
"I would love to be that good one day. It would make me really happy."
Boruc cemented his place in the Celtic side as they clinched the title in his first season.
He believes his game has come on since arriving last year from Legia Warsaw.
Boruc said: "I am more confident now than I was a year ago.
"In the process I am a better player. It is always good to get a number go games because you can show what you are capable of."
He is especially grateful to Bulgarian midfielder Stilian Petrov for making it easy for him to settle in Scotland.
Boruc said: "A number of guys have helped me, especially Stilian. Like me he is from eastern Europe. He is a really nice guy."
Poland play their final Group A game here tomorrow against Costa Rica following defeats by Ecuador and Germany.
Their sudden demise has bit a bit of a surprise and Boruc is anxious to finish in style.
He said: "We are all very disappointed by what has happened. The results have become a little bit embarrassing for the Polish team."
