Mexico coach Ricardo La Volpe is looking for divine intervention to help his team progress through to the World Cup knock-out stages.

The Central American side were held by 10-man Angola to a goalless draw in their second Group D match and face a stiff test against Portugal on Wednesday in Leipzig.

They need at least a point to ensure their qualification for the next round.

"My players put their all on the pitch, we are still physically superior to the rest of our rivals," said La Volpe.

"The only thing I can tell our fans is to pray to the Virgin of Guadalupe, which always helps.

"After all, champions need a little bit of luck."
