Paraguay goalkeeper Justo Villar's World Cup is over after a scan confirmed the extent of his leg injury.

The Newell's Old Boys custodian tore a muscle on the inside of his right leg during his side's World Cup opener against England on Saturday and was forced to leave the pitch after just seven minutes.

Paraguay's team doctor Osvaldo Pangrazio had already confirmed Villar would miss the remaining group games against Sweden and Trinidad and Tobago but a scan has now revealed that the goalkeeper will be out of action for around a month.

Pangrazio said on Monday evening that the scan "shows a very serious tear that will take him four weeks to get over".

"It's a five-centimetre tear, with a hematoma of more than 10 centimetres. It's a serious injury," Pangrazio explained.

Aside from Villar, Paraguay will also be without left-back Delio Toledo for Thursday's match against Sweden.

The Real Zaragoza defender is suffering from a thigh injury and will spend the next three days resting and undergoing light training.

Jorge Nunez, who replaced Toledo during the defeat to England, is set to take Toledo's place against the Swedes.
