Gregg Berhalter is an experienced defender who was drafted into USA's final 23-man squad when fellow defender Cory Gibbs was ruled out through injury.
Berhalter signed for Dutch side FC Zwolle in 1994, later playing for Sparta Rotterdam and Cambuur Leeuwareden. He also had a brief spell in England with Crystal Palace but is now the captain for Energie Cottbus in the German Second Bundesliga.
Berhalter is a tough-tackling full-back and is strong in the air. He earned his first international cap in 1994 against Saudi Arabia and is closing in on a half-century of appearances.
Berhalter has World Cup experience and was involved in the 2002 finals - starting two games.
The veteran had a goalbound effort cleared off the line in the quarter-finals against Germany when Torsten Frings handled the ball.
