Scott Carson was on standby for Germany but has been promoted into the final 23 as the third 'keeper behind Paul Robinson and David James after Robert Green was ruled out through injury.

The former Leeds United goalkeeper made just three first-team appearances for the Whites, making his senior debut in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2004.

Carson went on to sign for Liverpool in January 2005 for a fee of £1 million, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Carson made his Liverpool debut a couple of months after joining the Reds, starting in goal in a defeat to Newcastle United before playing in the crucial UEFA Champions League quarter final first-leg tie against Juventus.

He has played numerous times for the England U-21s and earned his first senior call-up in May 2005 for the tour of the United States.

Carson made nine first team appearances for Liverpool before he was sent out on loan last season to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday to gain more first-team experience.

He has a promising future ahead of him and has been tipped by some as a future England number one.
