The 26-year-old Omar Al Ghamdi has proved a solid presence in the Saudi Arabian midfield, where his qualities are more defensive than attacking.

His steel will be needed in middle of the park if the Saudis are to avoid a repeat of their humiliating experience in the last World Cup where an 8-0 thrashing by Germany was by far the most one-sided result in the tournament.

Al Ghamdi was in the squad four years ago but did not play.
