Redha Tukar was widely viewed as Saudi Arabia's best defender before the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan but he left the tournament with his reputation damaged.

The 8-0 drubbing at the hands of Germany in the group stages was embarrassing for the team but especially Tukar, who was culpable for a number of goals in the game and looked particularly vulnerable dealing with the opposition's aerial threat.

The experience he has gathered in the intervening four years, allied to his pace and solid positioning, should ensure that lightning does not strike twice for the Saudis as a team or for Tukar personally.
