Dusan Petkovic's call-up to the World Cup squad following an injury to Lecce striker Mirko Vucinic caused uproar in his homeland.

The reason for the hostile reaction was the fact that Dusan's dad is the Serbia and Montenegro coach Ilija Petkovic, and many suspected nepotism in the decision to call up the veteran defender.

Eventually Petkovic withdrew himself from the squad to ease the pressure on his father, but FIFA rules meant no replacement could be called up as he did not pull out because of injury.

Although Petkovic junior, who plays his club football with OFK Beograd, has played 12 times for his country and scoring one goal, he played no part in their qualifying campaign.

He returned to the Serbia and Montenegro first division in April after spells with Spartak Moscow and in the Bundesliga.
