The 25-year-old was discovered by Juventus playing in Australia for Perth Glory, and the Italian giants promptly snapped him up.

Only 19 at the time, he was loaned out to Basle where a serious illness almost ended his career.

The depression that followed affected him for two years and he did not feature at all in his country's World Cup qualifiers.

However, rumours abounded suggesting he would be chosen as back-up for Zvonimir Vukic and he may now have his big chance to impress.
