On the losing side for Saprissa against Liverpool in last year's Club World Championship, Alvaro Saborio was the joint leading scorer of that competition with two goals.
A year earlier, Saborio had scored the qualifying goal which took the Costa Rican Under-23 side to the Olympics where he went on to start three of their four games, scoring in a surprise victory over Portugal.
The striker is powerful in the air and lively on the deck and certainly has an eye for goal - he was the leading-scorer of the 2003/04 Costa Rican season as he netted 25 times.
Likely to be warming the bench in Germany with Paulo Wanchope and Ronald Gomez set to lead the attack, Saborio is a player capable of changing games with his predatory instincts.
