Alvaro Mesen is an experienced keeper who has never been able to establish himself as the regular number one for Costa Rica.

Mesen currently plays for Sport Herediano in his home country but made his name with Alajuelense. He has also become known for his campaigning after he was appointed as a FIFA ambassador in 2001 and also supported the 2002 FIFA World Cup Global March Against Child Labour campaign

He has experience of the last World Cup albeit without playing a game - and history is likely to repeat itself with Jose Porras as Costa Rica's No 1.
