A key member of the Polish midfield during the qualifying campaign, Miroslaw Szymkowiak's season was disrupted in September when he broke an ankle.

But after returning to action for club side Trabzonspor in Turkey, the 27-year-old proved his fitness to national coach Pawel Janas by playing in two friendlies early this year to book his ticket to Germany.

Having started his professional career on the right flank, Szymkowiak has flourished since being moved inside where his range of passing and ability to get forward and chip in with the occasional goal make him a key feature of this Poland side.
