The nephew of coach Ricardo Lavolpe, Rafael Garcia's selection in Mexico's World Cup squad ahead of fans' favourite Cuauhtemoc Blanco was a highly controversial one.

However Garcia does have international experience having featured in the 1999 Confederations Cup campaign as well as the last World Cup.

The 31-year-old could be considered over the hill but he played in five qualifying games so he will feel he is in contention for an appearance this summer.

A hard-working midfielder, Garcia is usually deployed on the left but he does have the ability to push further forward if the need arises.
