Veteran midfielder Andriy Gusin has been a stalwart for his country over the years but could find himself doing little more than warming the bench at the World Cup.

The former Dynamo Kiev midfielder is one of his country's few genuine top-class players but has seen his impact slowed by injuries in recent seasons. He came back into the frame recently after some fine club performances in Russia but coach Oleh Blohkin may opt for youth for the tournament, despite his three goals during the qualifying campaign.

Even if he does play only a peripheral role on the field, his experience will be invaluable for the younger members of the squad.
