Ruslan Rotan is widely regarded as his country's most promising midfielder, and his three goals in seven qualification games show he knows where the goal is.

That tally included a last-minute winner against Kazakhstan which helped set Ukraine on their way to a run of seven wins in eight qualifying games.

Rotan has emerged as the successor to Andriy Shevchenko as the undoubted star of Ukrainian football, and has struck up a deadly partnership with Shevchenko's former team-mate Sergei Rebrov at Dynamo Kiev.

But the Poltava-born star will surely need to weigh in with more goals in Germany if Ukraine are going to survive beyond the group stages.
