Reza Enayati finished the 2001/02 Iranian league season as top scorer, a feat which earned him his first national team call-up in April 2002.
But with the likes of Ali Daei and Vahid Hashemian ahead of him in the pecking order, Enayati has had little chance to prove himself and has only just edged into double figures in caps in the four years since making his debut.
Enayati chose to stay in Iran despite being linked with a move to the United Arab Emirates in 2004 and that season again finished top scorer in the league, scoring 20 times for Tehran giants Esteghlal.
His record in domestic football suggests he could cope at international level and it may well be the retirement of Daei that finally gives him his chance.
