Germany-born Ferydoon Zandi qualifies to play for Iran through his father and the Kaiserslautern midfielder made his debut for 'Team Melli' against Bahrain at the start of the final phase of Asia's World Cup qualifying tournament.

The creative midfielder, 27, struggled initially to settle into the Iran team but has now become more of a regular and he offers a more disciplined approach than many within the squad.

A German youth international, Zandi spent his early years with Freiburg before moves to Lubeck and more likely Kaiserslautern brought him to the attention of both the Germany and Iranian national coaches.
