A skilful defender who likes to move forward to support the midfield and attack, Sattar Zare has struggled to hold down a place in the Iran starting line-up of late.

Fielded mainly at left-back despite being right-footed, the 24-year-old came to prominence for all the wrong reasons when he was sent off in the semi-finals of the Asian Cup as the Iranians were eliminated by hosts China.

He made his international debut against Thailand two years ago and had won 19 caps when the World Cup squad was named in mid-May.
