A familiar face to English viewers having played 17 games for West Ham since joining them on loan from Deportivo La Coruna in January, Lionel Scaloni is still on the fringes of the Argentina squad.
One appearance in qualifying - plus, of course, a place in this squad - shows he is firmly on the radar of Jose Pekerman but you get the feeling the 28-year-old will be relying on substitute appearances to get any game time in Germany this summer.
Scaloni appeared shaky for the Hammers but his performance in the FA Cup final - by far his best in England - seems to have convinced Alan Pardew that he has a future at Upton Park and he could make a permanent £3million move after the tournament.
Whether he does so with some playing time at his first World Cup behind him remains to be seen, but Scaloni does have a good pedigree in European football having spent eight years with Spanish side Deportivo.
