Position: Defender
Born: 30.03.79
Club: Auxerre

Stephane Grichting is very much a fringe player but is lucky to even be at the World Cup given the unfortunate state he found himself after Switzerland's play-off clash with Turkey.

The defender was hospitalised after he was kicked in the groin during the post-match brawl which followed the heated clash in Istanbul.

But the 27-year-old got back in action for his club Auxerre in France, although he has hardly set the club alight since his move from FC Sion in 2003.

He has appeared in less than 60 matches in his four seasons in Ligue 1 and if he gets the chance to impress in Germany he must take it if he wants to reignite his career.
