Position: Midfielder
Born: 15.02.83
Club: Basle

The twin brother of fellow squad member Philipp, David Degen earned his World Cup call-up on the back of an impressive campaign with Basle along with Hakan Yakin's injury-plagued season.

The uncapped Degen is only 23 but he's already won two Swiss Super Leagues and was narrowly denied a third this year due to FC Zurich's late rally.

The attacking midfielder was also a thorn in Middlesbrough's side during their UEFA Cup quarter-final, although the English side would eventually progress to the final.

Frequently raiding down the right, Degen often uses his pace to get into goalscoring positions along with whipping dangerous crosses into the box.

He may not be as good as his twin just yet, but if he comes off the bench this summer, he's sure to cause some left-backs a lot of bother.
