With plenty of competition for a starting spot in the Ivory Coast frontline, Bakari Kone is likely to find himself having to settle for brief substitute appearances if he is to get any action at all this summer.

However he has proved an extremely prolific scorer at club level, albeit with Lorient in Ligue 2 - his 24 goals in 35 games in 2004/05 seeing him top the standings before a move to Nice saw him struggle at a higher level.

A pocket battleship, Kone appeared in five of the Elephants' qualifiers in Germany, scoring once, but those appearances yielded just 106 minutes of playing time - the clearest indication of all of his standing in the squad.
