Ricardinho was a surprise last-minute call-up to the squad in 2002, replacing the injured Emerson who was ruled out of the tournament with a dislocated shoulder.

He has earned nearly 20 caps for the Brazil team in a stop-start international career, and was involved in four games in Japan ansd South Korea four years ago.

Ricardinho is an attacking midfielder, adept at linking midfield and attack. He impressed at club level with Corinthians, earning him his first international cap in 2000 against Columbia.
