Gilberto has made just a handful of appearances for his country and is therfore unlikely to play a key role in this Brazil squad.

Indeed, it is widely thought that the 30-year-old has been drafted into the squad as an option, for Roberto Carlos in particular, if injuries strike.

Gilberto suffered a first bad spell in Europe at Italian giants Inter Milan but quickly regained his form on his return to Brazil.

It did not take long for clubs around Europe to notice his good form in Brazil and he was quickly snapped up by Hertha.

Now a fans' favorite in Berlin, Gilberto - not to be confused with team-mate Gilberto Silva - has settled down and seems to be really enjoying his football.
