An agile goalkeeper with plenty of experience in the Portuguese league, Quim Silva was at Braga before making the move south to Lisbon last season.
Now 30, he made his international debut in the 7-0 win over Andorra in 1999, coming on as a second-half substitute for Vitor Baia.
He was given his first start in a 2-0 friendly defeat by Italy shortly after but his international career came to a standstill when he was given a six-month suspension after testing positive for the banned substance nandrolone.
That kept him out of the 2002 World Cup but he was back in the Portugal frame once his ban ended and named in the Euro 2004 squad.
A good shot-stopper, Quim provides able back-up for Ricardo Pereira.
