In and out of the international fold since making his Croatia debut against Egypt in 1999, Ivan Leko is usually deployed on the left of midfield or as a left wing-back but is equally at home playing in a more central role.

Technically excellent with an outstanding range of passes, he also poses a threat from set-pieces but can be prone to drifting in and out of games hence his failure to nail down a consistent first-team role at international level.

Now playing his club football in Belgium for Club Brugge, the 28-year-old started his professional career with Hajduk Split in his homeland and scored 30 goals from midfield for the club at an average of one every four games.
